The Curse Of Macbeth!

The reality of having 5 days until our first performance is upon us! This afternoon, the Hawarden Players moved into our home for the next week, and show venue; Hawkesbury Theatre, Buckley.  The props are positioned, costumes hung up, and set built and looking fantastic.  A final week of non-stop nightly rehearsals is ahead for the cast and crew, in preparation for our opening night Friday 13th July!

The posters are out, banners hung up, and the following article has been sent to the local press, including news on a last minute incident that has led to an 11th hour cast change:

The Hawarden Players are proud to present a hilarious comedy The Farndale Avenue Housing Estate Townswomen’s Guild Dramatic Society’s Production of ‘Macbeth’.  If the recent wet weather has been getting you down, then this show will leave you laughing all the way home!  The performance introduces the intrepid ladies of the F.A.H.E.T.G. Dramatic Society, together with daring producer, David, and stage manager Henry.

Their production – original in the extreme – of the classic tragedy ‘Macbeth’ should guarantee them a place in the drama finals in Newport, Gwent after 9 months of painstaking rehearsals.  However, under the somewhat preoccupied eye of adjudicator Mr George Peach, events conspire to ensure that everything will not be all right on the night…

In true theatre fashion, the superstitious curse of Macbeth has already struck with one of our cast members, Jan.  It would seem she took the old famous well-wishing stage term of breaking a part of her body a bit too literally, and ended up leaving a rehearsal with a broken arm!  The play, however, must go on, and the production director, Sian Parry, has stepped up to the plate to save the day.

Performances of ‘Macbeth’, as you’ve never seen it done before take place on Friday 13th and Saturday 14th July at Hawkesbury theatre, Buckley.  Doors open at 7.00pm, with the curtain going up at 7.30pm.  Tickets are on sale now, priced just £6 and can be obtained by calling the ticket hotline on 01244 531085.  Tickets are also available online at www.hawardenplayers.com; from Sweet Memories sweet shop, located within Daleside Nurseries, Hawarden; or on the door the night of the performance.”

The Hawarden Players have a notorious history of out-of-their-hands cast changes when it comes to productions, and why should this play be any different!?  Sian has done an amazing job in the past week of the unenviable task of swapping sides of the directors desk, and integrating herself into the performance as Minnie.  Jan Meeker will be sorely missed as an on-stage presence this time around, but may very well still make an appearance in some form within the play… It goes without saying all of us at the Hawarden Players wish Jan the speediest of recoveries!

Sian Parry – whom some of you may remember as the always enthusiastic sports mistress, Miss Gossage in last years production of Happiest Days of Your Life; or more recently Lolita, one third of our Mexican villains the Tequila Triplets, in Wild West: The Panto – Has bravely stepped up to direct the Players latest offering, and a fine job she is doing of such an undertaking!

Blocking is almost complete already, and its safe to say that rehearsals have already been host to many of the most hilarious moments in Hawarden Players history!

Wild West: The Panto

Hawarden Players Go Wild For Panto!

Following the recent successes of “Cinderella” and “The Happiest Days of Your Life”, award winning drama group, the Hawarden Players, are taking a walk on the wild side for their next production: ‘Wild West: The Panto’, and invite you to don your cowboy hat and boots, and join them on the journey .

Written by Fiona Burdsall, and directed by Daniel Ellis and Jane Ainscough, the panto follows our hero, young cowboy Jo, and his somewhat unusual sidekick on their adventures and encounters in the dusty town of Big Gulp and beyond.

“Rehearsals for ‘Wild West: The Panto’ have been a joy to be a part of, and I hope that will shine through when we come to perform our show” said Dan Ellis, co-director. “How many other productions in the Flintshire area can boast they have cowboys, Indians, Mexicans, an outrageous dame and a pantomime classic character of the four legged variety, all coming together to give an audience a hilarious, and uplifting 3 hours of fun they will never forget?  Our show has everything you have come to expect from a panto and more. Songs that you know and love; dances that will get you boogying out of your seats, and a few surprising twists along the way!  We are fresh off winning an award for our ‘Outstanding Endeavour in Community Theatre’ and are extremely enthused by the support shown by the local areas in supporting the Hawarden Players. Anyone who has ever witnessed one of our plays or pantomimes would agree they leave with a huge smile on their face, and this panto will definitely leave you wanting more!”

Performances of ‘Wild West: The Panto’ will take place at the Hawkesbury Little Theatre, Mill Lane, Buckley on Friday 13th, Saturday 14th, Friday 20th and Saturday 21st January 2012.  Doors open at 7.00pm, with the curtain going up at 7.30pm.  There will also be a special matinee performance on the Saturday 21st January, with doors opening at 1:00pm and the show starting at 1.30pm.  Tickets are on sale now, priced just £6 for adults and £5 for children and can be obtained by calling the ticket hotline on 01244 531085.  Tickets are also available online by clicking here; from Sweet Memories sweet shop, located within Daleside Nurseries, Hawarden; or on the door the night of the performance, but be warned tickets are selling fast!
